THE NIGERIA OF MY DREAM AND THINGS I WILL DO IF I WAS THE PRESIDENT.

Fellow Nigerians, there is no doubt that the problems of Nigeria are enormous. There is no doubt that we are currently suffering from a huge economy downtrend perpetrated by various past leaders in this country. There is no doubt that this country has suffered colossal waste in terms of natural and human resources in recent years. There is no doubt that every sector of our country is increasing plague by the dreaded epidemic called ‘CORRUPTION’. However, in spite of all the aforementioned problems, I strongly believe without any iota of doubt that we can surmount our problems. I strongly believe that our problems can be overcome and this country can consequently rise to a greater height among the committee of nations in the global world if I were the president.

There is no country on the face of the earth that can rise above the quality of her leadership. Therefore, if I were the president of Nigeria, one major area that I would work on as a paramount importance is the appointment of competent people in strategic post that would cut across every sector of our economy. Such appointments would be based on merits, devoid of nepotism and prejudice. People whose loyalty cannot be compromised regardless of apparent appealing temptation or pressure from any individual. In other words, effective and efficient team work would be highly recognized and propagated.

Furthermore, I strongly believe that you would agree with me that even a competent and effective leadership cannot work effectively in a hostile environment. Therefore, adequate security, which is the primary responsibility of any responsible government would be a major concern by our administration just as the projection of lives and properties is stipulated and enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the primary responsibility of the government our administration would be totally committed not only to this section but also total commitment and obedience to the constitution as a whole. This would be done by ensuring that all our security agencies are adequately funded and its personnel are well trained and updated to meet international standard in crime fighting, control and prevention.

If I were the president of Nigeria, education would become a non-negotiable commodity to the great people of this country. I believe strongly that the progress of a country depends on the literacy of its people. Sadly, Nigeria is increasingly taken a high position of the ranking of the poorly funded countries in the world in education. It is sad that government schools don’t have adequate facilities for learning and teachers are either under paid or not even given their salary. Nigeria could be much better if we place higher priority to the future of our children and posterity in the regal. The US government would never dare to fill their country with people that has nothing upstairs to offer. That shows the seriousness and value they place on education. As earlier said our administration would ensure that competent people are given opportunity to serve this great country. If I were the president, visible infrastructural development and provision of social amenities like good water supply, electricity is blessed with resources that could be channeled towards the relegation of this indispensable provision. Therefore, we could embark on physical development which could also create job opportunities for our people. We would encourage private partnership based on level playground for interested partners. Competent contractors would be engaged and densely monitored to ensure targeted and desired delivery.

It is heart breaking to see Nigerians spend millions of naira on travelling outside the country for better medical treatment; it is heart breaking to see citizens die at the hand of incompetent doctors. These will not continue because our administration will provide adequate medical facilities, free checkup and upgrade our training level for medical practitioners. The time has come to prove the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) that we care for the lives of our people.

The Nigeria of my dreams will be a country that has diversified and numerous chains of income other than crude oil and its end products. Other sectors like Agriculture, Tourism and Entertainment will be given serious investment as to improve the economy of the Nation. If I were the president of Nigeria, the country would not remain the same again. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
